Swimming Question of the Week - March 16, 2011

Posted by Glenn Mills on Mar 16, 2011 05:09PM (1,713 views)

Very simple question this week, but be ready to elaborate.

If you could spend a day with ANY swimmer... who would it be and why?

Looking forward to the answers on this one. :)

Mark Spitz. The picture with 7 medals, and the swimsuit stars&stripes, impressed me when I was a child. My dad bought me the same swimsuit!!.On 1972 I was 5. Nowadays I'm a Jason Lezak fan.

James Hickman to see how he worked on his awesome underwater short course

Very simple indeed.

Amanda Beard!

She has the loveliest breaststroke EVER and I highly admire when people can do what I cannot.

Oh you're gonna be mad at me tomorrow Sprinter. Guess who I'm hanging with all day? ;)

Responded Mar 17, 2011 03:00PM

I wanted to say something cheesy like I spend every day with the swimmers I want to hang out with but then Sprinter changed my mind. Glenn, on behalf of all men, screw you.

Responded Mar 17, 2011 03:06PM

It's a rough job but.... :)

Responded Mar 17, 2011 08:59PM

Ok, from that p.o.v., change my vote to Amanda Beard...

Ada Kok, a dutch 200m butterfly swimmer from the 1960 ties and 1970 ties. I could not believe my eyes how she swam this stroke with one kick. (I was about 15 at that time) Do not know if she is still alive for hanging out with her. It was before your peak time, Glenn, so I don't know if you have heard of her.

Dave, because he was so good to me. And the 4 x ?00 state and nationals relay teams from '77-79 because we had such fun together.

Responded Mar 18, 2011 07:56AM

Oh, Glenn, I am not mad at you, but simply envy you. Send her my reagrds! Have a lovely day guys!!!

@ Marc + wonderboy : copy cats :P :P :P *just kidding*

Michael Phelps because he is best swimmer in world, because he is from my home town Baltimore, because he would give me great feedback on my strokes, because he would provide good answers to many questions as ways to warmup before a race, strength training, flexibility, drills, use of equipment (fins, floats, etc.), tapering, breathing, race pacing, ...

Responded Mar 19, 2011 01:58PM

I would go for Phelps and Popov. Did you see Popov's sprint training on youtube? its was so beautiful and flawless! he just swam so smooth and slow to concentre technique and drills. Its like reading a poetry!

Responded Mar 21, 2011 04:04PM

Sprinter and/or Glenn......Seriously

Responded Mar 21, 2011 06:33PM

But if it had to be an other celeb.....then I'd go for Inge de Bruin or Phelps....can you imaging me standing next to him.?????hahahahaha

Responded Mar 22, 2011 08:13AM

Nice! Thanks for the update! :)

Christof Wandratsch. He is one of the best long distance open water swimmers of our times (and comes from Germany which makes appointments easier).
